carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e)

A carbon dioxide equivalent or CO₂ equivalent, (abbreviated as CO₂e) is a metric used to compare the emissions from various greenhouse gases (GHGs) on the basis of their global-warming potential by converting amounts of other gases to the equivalent amount of carbon dioxide that would have the same global warming potential.For example, R-410a – a commonly used refrigerant gas has 2,088x the global-warming potential of carbon dioxide. This means that emissions of 1kg of R-410a is equivalent to emissions of 2,088kg of carbon dioxide.
